I was looking at this week's PostSecrets this morning. There was one at the end about Virginia Tech. This one has been posted twice on this week's site, and originally I read it that she wished never to remember about a man. It is a picture of a man licking a woman's face, and her laughing. Then, I realised, on second viewing, that it was about Virginia Tech.

You know, I am happy. My kids are great. My man is great. My health is getting better. I have a lovely home, in a lovely part of the world. We aren't badly off financially. My biggest gripe in life is that the kids didn't empty the dishwasher this morning (their chore) and didn't bring their breakfast plates to the kitchen.

WTF??

How wonderful is my life, eh?

The other one that really got me was the one about walking into a room and deciding where to hide when the gunman comes in.

Can you imagine having an experience like that?

We see these things on the telly. We shake our heads and mumble about what the world is coming to. I think that is a defence mechanism - we can't fix the problem, so we filter it. It becomes like 'Lost' and 'Bones' - these things become unreality.

Even now the sadness for those kids is fading. My duaghter picking her nose is becoming my reality again.

I hope I (and you) never have to find out what living thru something like that is really like.
